Laboratory for the rational use of energy (RA)

Fast facts

Profile

The Laboratory for the Rational Use of Energy supports teaching in the Energy Management and Electrical Engineering study program. Practicals and research work are carried out for this purpose. A particular focus of the research and development activities is energy efficiency in the building sector.

The RA laboratory works closely with the affiliated institute "European Test Center for Residential Ventilation Units" (TZWL). The subject of this cooperation is, for example, the development of a low-cost measuring device for CO2, temperature and relative humidity of the room air as a basis for needs-based ventilation and thus for energy efficiency.

Another area of research activities at the RA Laboratory is passive solar gains, i.e. the input of solar energy through transparent building components. The usability of the available solar energy in winter and the simultaneous minimization of a cooling requirement caused by solar energy in summer affects aspects of the building structure, the technical building equipment and the control technology. This is the subject of simulation studies in particular.
