Profile

Various methods for treating and finishing surfaces are available in the surface technology laboratory.
The sandblasting cabin can be used to prepare surfaces for subsequent coating processes.
A thermal spraying system can be used to apply layers of various metallic materials to workpieces.
A hot-dip galvanizing system ("hot-dip galvanizing") is also available, which can be used to apply a protective zinc coating to steel samples.
A simple system for whirl sintering completes the methods for coating deposition.
Two furnaces (Tmax = 1200°C) for thermal pre- or post-treatment complete the equipment.
The laboratory for surface technology is used, among other things, to carry out practical courses as part of the compulsory elective subject of surface technology (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering) and for student work (student research project, IA, BA).
The laboratory also regularly supports projects from other faculty departments, particularly with the ovens.
