Profile

The corrosion testing laboratory carries out tests on the corrosion stability of materials and coatings.
A salt spray system for standard-compliant corrosion testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9227 is available for this purpose.
Electrochemical measurements can also be carried out using a potentiostat/galvanostat system. Various methods such as linear polarization and impedance spectroscopy can be used to investigate corrosion stability.
The laboratory for corrosion testing is used, among other things, as part of the compulsory elective subject of surface technology (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering study program), the basic practical course (Bachelor of Vehicle Development) and student work.
Electrochemical measurements are also carried out in particular for projects with external partners.

Equipment

  • Salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227
  • Galvanostat/potentiostat for electrochemical measurements
  • Coating thickness gauge (magnetic inductive, eddy current technology)
  • Multimeter for determining pH, conductivity, salt content and oxygen content of solutions
  • oxygen content of solutions
