The Laboratory for Structural Mechanics and Simulation focuses on the experimental and numerical investigation of structures and materials subjected to mechanical stress. The focus is on analyzing the mechanical behavior of components under static and dynamic loads, as well as on developing and validating simulation-based models. This involves combining methods from engineering mechanics, materials testing, and finite element simulation (FEM).
The laboratory combines traditional experimental testing methods with modern measurement and sensor technologies as well as digital evaluation methods. The goal is the practical investigation of stresses, deformations, vibrations, and failure mechanisms, as well as the development of innovative testing and simulation approaches for research and industrial applications.
In terms of teaching, the laboratory supports the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in mechanical engineering through internships, project work, and theses. At the same time, it serves as a platform for research and development projects with industry partners and scientific institutions, particularly in the areas of lightweight construction, sustainable material and structural concepts, and experimental and numerical structural mechanics.
