Prospective students

From May 15, 2024, you can apply for admission to the Bachelor of Architecture study program via the study portal(Opens in a new tab) . At the same time, you can register here for the required aptitude test.

Suitability assessment 2024

Admission to the Bachelor's degree course in Architecture at Fachhochschule Dortmund is based on a course-related aptitude assessment. Therefore, in addition to a general university entrance qualification, you must also provide proof of a specific aptitude.

For enrolment for the winter semester 2024, we offer you a choice of two aptitude assessment dates:

1st aptitude day: June 14, 2024
(Registration is expected to be possible from May 15 to June 06, 2024)

2nd aptitude day: July 05, 2024
(Registration possible until June 27, 2024.)

Procedure and content of the aptitude test

The aptitude assessment takes place on site at the Fachhochschule Dortmund (Faculty of Architecture, Emil-Figge-Str. 40, 44227 Dortmund). Please bring a portfolio with 10 work samples to the aptitude test. In our rooms at the faculty you will work on a small task and briefly present your portfolio to us.

Portfolio with 10 work samples: The portfolio must be prepared in advance of the aptitude assessment day. The portfolio can contain work samples from the areas of drawings, paintings, collages, photographs or technical drawings. A mixture of the individual areas is desirable (see "Portfolio" below). The portfolio may only contain originals created by you. The portfolio must include a table of contents and an author's declaration, please use this template PDF-File 259,73 kB .

In addition, you must scan the contents of your portfolio (10 work samples, table of contents and author's declaration) and upload it as a PDF file to the study portal(Opens in a new tab)  at least 7 days before the respective aptitude day.

On-site portfolio interview: At the university, you will present excerpts from your portfolio to a lecturer in a 10-minute interview.

Small task on site: You will work on a small task, which usually consists of several parts (e.g. develop an idea, sketch and build it, calculate and describe it).

You will be informed of the result of the aptitude test in writing the following week.

You must register for the respective aptitude day at least 7 days before the respective aptitude date. Registration is not complete until you have uploaded the contents of your portfolio.

Registration for the aptitude assessment takes place as part of the application for a study place via the study portal(Opens in a new tab)  from May 15, 2024.

You will receive an invitation by email 2-3 days before the respective aptitude assessment. This will include your personal appointment for the portfolio interview. The following general schedule is currently planned (changes at short notice are possible, please note the e-mail)

08:30 - 09:00 Registration of applicants
09:00 - 09:30 Welcome and introduction to the tasks to be completed
09:45 - 13:00 Processing of the task and portfolio discussion (see e-mail)
