The building sector is key to achieving the European Union’s climate goals: Buildings account for about 40 percent of energy consumption and approximately 36 percent of CO2 emissions. Heating, in particular, offers significant potential for energy savings. Against this backdrop, a practice-oriented workshop at Fachhochschule Dortmund demonstrates how the digitalization of thermal energy flows can significantly increase heating efficiency.
The workshop is aimed at beginners who want to learn about the fundamental technologies for digitizing the heating chain. They will learn how smart Internet of Things devices heat the individual rooms of a building on a room-by-room basis according to demand and optimize heat generation. Among other things, participants will work together to define the requirements, framework conditions, and implementation steps. The workshop will be led by Christof Röhrig, professor of computer science at Fachhochschule Dortmund. His research areas include robotics, intelligent energy management, and smart buildings.
The event is organized by the Institute for the Digital Transformation of Application and Living Domains (IDiAL) at Fachhochschule Dortmund as part of Dortmund Digital Week (DiWoDo).
