Mapping at the Dortmunder U: “What is wisdom”

For Museum Night, storyLab kiU will once again project a brand-new 3D animation onto the facade of the U. “What is wisdom” is the title of the projection mapping. In it, storyLab kiU lets the Dortmunder U speak for itself: as a century-old landmark that has weathered good times and bad, preserved history, and foreseen the future.

According to kiU director Harald Opel, the projection transforms the facade into a living archive of memories, artificial intelligence, absurd oracles, and visionary images. In this way, the U tells a story of change and responsibility, of human wisdom and its limits—and asks how people interact with one another, with technology, and with nature. Harald Opel: “A poetic, humorous, and powerful journey through 100 years to the pressing questions of our time.”

The mapping is accompanied by sound artist Christof Schläger, who plays large, pneumatically controlled drums and instruments that appear rather peculiar.

The mapping is a production of “storyLab kiU” at Fachhochschule Dortmund and Arts in cooperation with the “Dortmunder U.”
