Every person has a unique biography, an unmistakable story

We live in a present that is constantly characterized by new challenges, be it in the course of demographic development, legal changes or technological progress. In the course of rapid economic and social change, the realities of our lives are changing inexorably and are reflected in the growing diversity of life situations, opportunities for participation, social access and individual life plans.

It has long been known and scientifically undisputed that senior citizens with a history of migration face special, often invisible challenges. Far too often, however, they are talked about instead of listened to. Every person has a unique biography, an unmistakable story. These stories need to be made visible! Only by meeting at eye level can we discover what connects people with and without a history of migration in old age. Only through dialog can we overcome prejudices, break them down in the long term and strengthen cohesion.

Two talk events

With two talk events on 27.05.2026 at 6 pm in the Wilhelm-Hansmann-Haus and on 18.11.2026 at 6 pm in the Dietrich-Keuning-Haus, a change of perspective will be ventured in which people whose stories still want to be told will be given a stage.

Together with invited guests, Prof. Dr. Martina Brandt (ageing) and Prof. Dr. Emra Ilgün-Birhimeoğlu (migration) will explore the many facets of the topic.

The two events will focus on the guests, their biographies, their work and their personal view of age(ing). The talk aims to make their voices clearly audible as the basis for an open exchange.
