f2-Fotofestival of the Faculty of Design

Fast facts

Information

Globalization phenomena can be scientifically recorded and expressed in figures. The effects on the global community, on the other hand, are more difficult to depict: Relationships between people remain opaque - regardless of whether they take place in close proximity or are mediated across spatial distances. The image that people have of others is always already preformed. Only supposedly does globality open up spaces and connect people. As a leading visual medium, photography plays a key role in the visual negotiation and construction of globality. Photographic images can manipulate and reinforce prejudices. However, they can also enlighten and, in the best case, contribute to rethinking one's own view of others.

Nine photographic and multimedia positions by photographers from Fachhochschule Dortmund and the École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles will be shown in the rooms of Different e.V., which deal critically and self-reflectively with the topic of globality. Their viewpoints and modes of presentation could hardly be more heterogeneous. However, they are similar in one relevant aspect: globality has something to do with ourselves and is never something that takes place somewhere in the world without our involvement - and so the view into the distance is first and foremost one into our own imaginary worlds.
