Dortmund Dialog 83 - with Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler

Information

Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler

Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler from the Faculty of Business Studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund will be a guest at the 83rd Dortmund Dialogue of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Strukturwandels in der Arbeitsgesellschaft e.V. (GFS) and will talk about and with so-called hidden champions.

Hidden champions are companies that have conquered a leading European or global position in their sector largely unnoticed by the public. According to a study, North Rhine-Westphalia is in first place nationwide with 690 hidden champions. In the Ruhr metropolis, the Ennepe-Ruhr district is the leader with 23 hidden champions - ahead of Dortmund, Duisburg and Essen with nine each. They come from all sectors of the economy and employ a total of almost one million people in NRW. They have an annual turnover of over 150 billion euros. In addition to internationalization, their focus on technology is a key success factor. Almost a third of the hidden champions come from cutting-edge and high-tech sectors.

Prof. Dr. Jan-Philipp Büchler, Professor of Corporate Management at Fachhochschule Dortmund, has built up an extensive database of these medium-sized global market leaders over many years. At the Dortmund Dialogue, he will talk about and with the hidden champions on the podium in three blocks:

  • What is a hidden champion?
  • How do you become and remain a champion?
  • What are (regional) ecosystems of innovation?
