What could you do after school? Pupils were once again given helpful advice at the Dortmund University Days (DHT). Our university of applied sciences also provided information about study options - this time both online and during campus tours on site.
As in the previous year, the DHT 2022 mainly offered a virtual stage on which the Dortmund universities presented themselves due to the coronavirus. A major advantage of the online world for participants was the flexible program selection on 19 January: "The students were able to follow a central livestream and ask questions via chat at the same time, but could also join individual live events at the UAS in between," explains Sandra Rüffin, coordinator for the DHT at the UAS and responsible for the transition from school to university.
Livestream still available
The central livestream will remain available as a recording on the DHT website(Opens in a new tab) . For example, prospective students can still find out how to find a study program that suits them: How do you make an informed decision? How can interests and abilities be identified? Lisa Fleischmann, a Fachhochschule Dortmund student advisor, provided answers and practical tips for personal study choices in a joint presentation with a colleague from TU Dortmund University. The University's Central Student Advisory Services (ZSB) had also set up a telephone hotline for further questions from prospective students.
Insights into all faculties
In the individual live events, all eight faculties of the UAS provided insights into different focal points. The Women's Project Lab and the Central Student Advisory Services (ZSB) also presented themselves. Although these events were not recorded, the DHT media library(Opens in a new tab) offers several videos in which the university of applied sciences presents its departments and information about studying at the university.
Parents' evening and campus tours
The DHT was supplemented by two other events: a digital parents' evening on January 17 and coronavirus-friendly campus tours by student advisors on January 20. "Around 40 students took part in these guided tours in two groups on the outdoor area of the Emil-Figge-Straße campus in accordance with hygiene regulations," reports coordinator Sandra Rüffin, who was also there herself. "Everyone was happy to experience something on site during this time and to talk directly to the student advisors." For the next edition of the DHT in January 2023, she naturally hopes to be able to welcome prospective students back to the university in person.
