Fachhochschule Dortmund mourns the loss of its former colleague Dr. Franco Rest, who was Professor of Educational Sciences, Social Philosophy and Social Ethics in the Faculty of Applied Social Studies until his retirement in 2007.

Professor Rest researched and taught in particular on end-of-life care and hospice work. He is regarded as the initiator and promoter of the hospice movement. He was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for this commitment.

Franco Rest was highly regarded by students and staff for his great professionalism, his rhetorical skills and his sense of humor.

Professor Rest was involved in the self-administration of Fachhochschule Dortmund as Dean of the former Faculty of Social Work and as Vice-Rector for Studies, Teaching, Study Reform, Evaluation and Continuing Education.

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts is very grateful to Franco Rest for his unusually great and very successful commitment.

We will keep him in honorable memory.

for the Fachhochschule Dortmund Prof. Dr. Richard Günder,
former Dean of the Faculty of Applied Social Studies
