Kick-off for a good climate in the Dorstfeld district

Published

The Dorstfeld climate neighborhood builds on the "KliWest" project in Dortmund's Westerfilde district, in which Fachhochschule Dortmund and its partners developed and researched measures and strategies for sustainable consumption and good living within urban neighborhoods over a period of three years.

Living sustainably and well? The best way to do this is together. In the "Klimanachbarschaft Dorstfeld" project, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the City of Dortmund and the citizens of Dorstfeld want to explore together what each individual can do for a sustainable future and how neighbors can work together to protect the climate.

The Dorstfeld climate neighborhood builds on the "KliWest" project in Dortmund's Westerfilde district, in which Fachhochschule Dortmund and its partners developed and researched measures and strategies for sustainable consumption and good living within urban neighborhoods over a period of three years. "Due to coronavirus, many of the activities had to take place digitally," explains Tilmann Hüppauff, project coordinator and research assistant at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund. A challenge for the sense of community in the neighborhood. That's why the climate neighborhood is focusing primarily on on-site activities this time, which are being expanded digitally.

The official kick-off on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 6 p.m. in the Dorstfeld community center at Vogelpothsweg 15 marks the start of a series of action days on mobility, energy, consumption and nutrition. "We want to comprehensively empower local people for sustainable lifestyles," explains Tilmann Hüppauff. This requires both scientific information and active networks. "With the 'neighborhood democrats' in the 'wilma' neighborhood store on Wilhelmplatz, we have committed partners on board," says the social scientist. When it comes to resource conservation and climate awareness, the team focuses on joint action. "We can garden, repair, swap or borrow together," says Tilmann Hüppauff, naming just a few ideas. Ideas and wishes are to be collected at the kick-off, as the impulses of the participating citizens are the main focus.

All interested people with connections to the Dortmund district of Dorstfeld are invited. Information and dates are available on the specially designed website at www.klimanachbarschaft.de(Opens in a new tab)  or by email at suprastadtfh-dortmundde
