Together with pupils, students and local residents, the Hochschule vor Ort held five workshops to gather ideas for the redesign and use of Mehmet Kubaşık Square. The workshop participants wanted a search for traces in memory of the kiosk owner Mehmet Kubaşık. Following on from this, the Hochschule vor Ort developed two searches for traces that can be completed in parallel due to similar routes.
Since 2019, the square between Münsterstrasse and Mallinckrodtstrasse has borne the name of Mehmet Kubaşık, who was murdered in 2006 by members of an extreme right-wing terrorist cell known as the National Socialist Underground (NSU).
Adventure Lab: The digital search for clues
"In the footsteps of Mehmet Kubaşık" is the name of the digital trail through the Nordstadt, which was developed by the Hochschule vor Ort. It can be experienced as an adventure with the free Adventure Lab app. An adventure is a tour in which special places and the stories behind them can be discovered. Questions have to be answered or small puzzles solved at important stops along the route.
The story of Mehmet Kubaşık
Together with Azra, Sami and Ahmad on a search for clues in Dortmund: Where can you find traces of the National Socialist Underground, the so-called NSU, in Dortmund?
The digital search for clues takes around an hour and leads through Dortmund's Nordstadt district. It tells of the crimes of the NSU and Mehmet Kubaşık, who was murdered in 2006.

Geocaching: The search for clues with real finds
Let's go on a treasure hunt in Dortmund: the aim of geocaching is to find three small containers using the free geocaching app. Each container contains a logbook in which the finders can immortalize themselves.
