Teaching degree at vocational colleges

For several years now, there has been a severe shortage of teachers at vocational and technical colleges. According to projections by the Ministry of Schools and Education of North Rhine-Westphalia, there will be an unmet demand for teachers over the next 10 years, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and automotive technology. In response to this trend, Fachhochschule Dortmund and Arts, in collaboration with university partners, have created pathways for engineers to facilitate a smooth transition into teaching at vocational colleges.

Are you interested in technology, do you enjoy creative work with students, and do you want to advance your career? Are you studying mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or automotive engineering? Then the path to becoming a teacher at vocational colleges is exactly right for you.

One degree—three options

After earning your bachelor’s degree from Fachhochschule Dortmund, you have three options. You can enter the workforce, pursue a specialized master’s degree, or transfer to one of our partner universities to earn a Master of Education. With the latter option, you will be a fully trained and certified teacher qualified to teach at a vocational college.
