EU application

• You have acquired your Higher Education Entrance Qualification (HZB) in the Federal Republic of Germany or at a German school abroad or in a country of the EU/EEA. PLEASE NOTE: Assessment test certificates are only valid in combination with a certificate from your home country. They therefore do not count as a German Higher Education Entrance Qualification;
• Your family members (spouse, parent) are EU/EEA nationals and are or were employed in Germany.
  If do do not meet any of the criteria listed above, please contact our International Office for more information on your application procedure.

In study programs with restricted admission, remaining study places  will be allocated in the course of a lottery process after the end of the regular allocation procedure.

Participation is open to prospective students who

1. meet the general admission requirements and
2. the “special” enrollment requirements for the respective Bachelor’s programs (e.g. university entrance qualification, completed internships prior to enrollment, aptitude test,...) and Master’s programs (e.g, suitability of the Bachelor’s degree, grade,...) as well as
3. the respective language requirements.

They can enter the lottery process regardless of whether they have previously participated in the application process.

You do not need to register at Hochschulstart or uni-assist e.V. if you want to participate in the lottery process!

• Please check whether you meet the admission requirements for your desired study program.
• You can only enter the lottery process via online application during the respective application period. Applications received by postal mail or via e-mail will not be included in the application process!
• You can enter the lottery process for the winter semester 2021/22 from 15 to 22 September 2020 for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs.
• The application deadlines are cut-off dates. This means that applications submitted after the application deadline cannot be considered!
• You will only receive a respective admission letter if you have succeeded in the lottery process. The letter will be available in the study place portal as a PDF document. Rejection letters will not be issued.

You can only submit one online application per study program. However, you can apply for different study programs.

Example: 

Application 2x Business Studies = not allowed
Application 1x Computer Science + 1x Applied Social Studies = allowed

Remaining study places in study programs with open admission will be allocated in the course of a separate procedure. You can find more information in the next section.

You can only be enrolled if there are remaining study places left and if you meet all of the admission requirements for your desired study program.

Please note: If you have acquired your university entrance qualification as a “vocationally qualified person”, you can only apply for a remaining study place if you have previously applied in the course of the "regular" application process for vocationally qualified persons (including the respective specific application deadlines).

• Please check whether you meet the admission requirements for your desired study program in advance.
• You can only apply online for a remaining study place. Applications sent by postal mail or via e-mail will not be included in the application process!
• If you receive a study place, you will find a respective letter of admission in the Study Place Portal of Fachhochschule Dortmund.
• Please note: Do not submit any additional documents before you receive a letter of admission! Previously submitted documents will not be considered for the application process!
• If you do not receive a letter of admission, there are no more remaining study places for the respective semester.
• The date of the online application is important for the admission: The sooner we receive your online application, the better are the chances of receiving a remaining study place.

If there are study places available, students enrolled at other universities, can attend lectures and courses offered by Fachhochschule Dortmund. Cross-registered students have to meet the admission requirements for studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund and have the right to take examinations during their studies (a so-called cross-registration in the same program).

Please submit your application for admission as a cross-registered student until 15 February for the subsequent summer semester and until 15 August for the following winter semester.

You have to present the certificate of enrollment of your primary university to be submitted and meet the enrollment requirements. Some study programs have restrictions for cross-registered students, so admission is not always possible.

Cross-registered students are not allowed to take the final examination.

In accordance with Section 52 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Hochschulgesetz - HG), cross-registered students can be admitted to an additional study program, if they meet the admission and enrollment requirements for study programs with restricted admission (so-called cross-registration in a different program).

The application procedure for cross-registered students enrolled in a different program is the same as for regular full-time students.

You only have to pay the social contribution at the your primary university. You will not receive the public transport pass for North Rhine-Westphalia from Fachhochschule Dortmund if you are a cross-registered student.

If you would like to attend selected lectures at Fachhochschule Dortmund but are not enrolled as a regular student, you can be admitted as an auditing student. You do not have to to submit proof of a higher education entrance qualification. After being admitted, you can attend lectures. However, you are not allowed to take any exams.

As an auditing student, you are not regularly enrolled at  Fachhochschule Dortmund and therefore will not receive a student ID or the public transport pass for North Rhine-Westphalia. We can issue a certificate of attendance upon request.

The Dean of the respective faculty will decide whether you can be admitted as an auditing student. Please transfer the auditing student fee of €100 to the Office for Student Affairs (Studienbüro) after you receive confirmation of  admission as an auditing student.

If you have successfully graduated from a study program at a German institution of higher education and would like to pursue an additional degree for specific reasons - whether professional or academic - you can only be admitted within a  special quota of no more than 3 percent of all study places.

Restricted admission to a study program also applies if you want to take up the studies to earn a second degree. If you had the opportunity to complete a degree at a German university in the past, you have to allege special reasons why you need to purse a second degree, if you are applying for a study program with a large number of applicants.

In order to review the reasons for your application, please submit the documents listed below. You can upload these documents in a PDF file during your online application. Please submit the following:

- A scan of your Bachelor's, Diplom, Magister or Master's diploma and certificate indicating the final cumulative grade as a decimal.

(Please note: If you have completed a Master's program, you also have to submit the diploma and certificate of the previous Bachelor’s study program, in addition to the Master’s diploma and certificate.)

- A motivation letter (stating the reasons why you are applying for a second degree program)

We will determine the point ranking for the participation in the allocation process based on your final cumulative grade and the reasons stated in the motivation letter. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that you submit all documents listed above. If you fail to present these documents, you will be excluded from the allocation process.

You have to participate in this procedure if you are applying for:

1. a Bachelor's program with restricted admission at Fachhochschule Dortmund after you have successfully completed a previous Bachelor's, Diplom, Magister or Master's program at a German university.

2. a Master's program with restricted admission at Fachhochschule Dortmund after you have successfully completed  a previous Diplom (Universität), Magister, or Master's program at a German university.
