Information for students of the Fachhochschule Dortmund about the Deutschlandstipendium

The application deadline for the Deutschlandstipendium in the funding year 2020/2021 starts on May 4, 2020 and ends on June 10, 2020 12:00 a.m.!

1.) Who can apply for a scholarship at the Fachhochschule Dortmund?
  • You can apply online through ODS for a one-year scholarship, if you are enrolled at the Fachhochschule Dortmund in a Bachelor or Master course as a regular student and are within the standard period of study.
  • Regular students from other universities may attend courses and take examinations at the FH Dortmund as cross-registered students (Zweithörer) but are definitely excluded from the application for a Deutschlandstipendium at the FH Dortmund.
  • The Deutschlandstipendium will be awarded to students of all nationalities.
  • The main criterion for the award of a scholarship is a high performance at school and/or university up to now. Social commitment, the preceding personal career, times for the upbringing of children as well as the overcoming of special obstacles in the educational career will furthermore be considered favorably but are not a prerequisite for the application for a Deutschlandstipendium.

2.) Which are the criteria for an application?
  • During the whole period of the scholarship funding you must be within the standard period of study and enrolled in a current Bachelor or Master course at least until August 31, 2020. Funding of the final semester only within the standard period of study is excluded. This means for a 6-semester course, for example, that at the time of application you may not be above the 4th regular semester.
  • You are not allowed to apply for a leave of absence from study during the winter semester 2019/20 and the summer semester 2020.
(Exception: study-related stays abroad or obligatory practical training in Germany or abroad within the period of funding).
  • Being enrolled as a regular student in a Bachelor or Master course at the Fachhochschule Dortmund (students in their first regular semester during the summer semester 2019 may also apply for the Deutschlandstipendium).

3.) May I apply for the scholarship if I receive other funding?
  • The Deutschlandstipendium is a scholarship based on high performance. That means it is awarded irrespective of income and support of parents.
  • If you already receive financial support based on talent and performance of an average amount of 30,00 € or more per month, you cannot apply for the Deutschlandstipendium. If you are a scholarship holder of a funding organization or the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), you must forgo the material funding, if you want to be awarded a Deutschlandstipendium. Please observe the pdf file “Informationen zur Doppelförderung” (Information on double funding) (revised December 2018) in the right column.
  • If you receive funding through the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) and will be awarded a Deutschlandstipendium, you must inform the BAföG Office. The scholarship funds do not count towards grants awarded under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG).
  • If FH Dortmund will award you with a grant, your acceptance of the Deutschlandstipendium is binding for the whole funding year 2019/20. In case of your withdrawal from studies during the current funding period, you are obliged to return the award paid until then to the FH Dortmund.

4.) When can I start applying?

Online application for the scholarship programme will be activated on May 15 to June 14 12:00 a.m., 2019 and will be available in your ODS account, where you can apply under “Stipendium” (scholarship). Please note that an application is possible only online!

Subsequent modifications of your application or submission of missing documents after finally sending the application online are excluded!

The online application will be closed on June 14, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. (deadline). Afterwards it is no longer possible to apply! Please note also § 6 of the Scholarship Regulations of the Fachhochschule Dortmund.

5.) Which documents (proofs of academic achievement) belong to an application?

5.1)

  • The main criterion for the scholarship selection is the graded performance at the FH Dortmund resp. the overall grade of the university entrance qualification or of a university degree certificate, if you are a first semester student, verifiable until the day of application and available on ODS.

  • Proof of performance– Version 1

Bachelor students, who are in their first regular semester in the summer semester 2019, must submit their complete university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur, Baccalauréat, GCE or an equivalent qualification).
The documents must be uploaded online as a pdf file!

Here the average grade of the university entrance qualification is the performance criterion. Please observe that first semester regular students in a Bachelor course at the Fachhochschule Dortmund can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium only, if they are fully enrolled by September 30, 2019 and have already received their ODS access data until then.

  • Proof of performance – version 2

Master students who are in their first regular semester in the sommer semester 2019 must submit their Bachelor degree certificate with complete grades.
The document must be uploaded online as a pdf file!

Here the overall grade of the Bachelor certificate is the performance criterion.
Please note: Master students in their first regular semester can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium only, if they are fully enrolled by September 30, 2019 and have already received their ODS access data until then.

  • Proof of performance – version 3

You are in the middle of your BA or MA course and within the standard period of study.
In this case no documents must be uploaded for the online application!
Your current average grade and the sum of ECTS points in ODS at the time of application are the performance criteria and will automatically appear in your online application.

Please note here: The verification of your ODS transcript of grades concerning completeness and correctness is your own responsibility!

If there is any doubt, please address in time to your Studienbüro at the Fachhochschule Dortmund.

5.2)

  • Among the selection criteria are an outstanding performance in school or university and also an honorary commitment (social, cultural, scientific, athletic, religious or political). Furthermore, the overcoming of obstacles in the educational career caused by social, familiar or personal circumstances (which are, for instance, the result of the family environment, a migration background, a chronic disease/disability or the upbringing of children) may be considered favorably.

  • If an honorary social commitment (not more than 3 activities) was stated in the online application mask, a written proof (certificate, confirmation of the respective institution) must be submitted.
This document must also be uploaded as pdf file within the online application!
Only confirmed activities in non-profit areas which are or were practiced without payment may be considered here!
  • If times of children upbringing were stated, a written proof (birth certificate of the legal/adopted child) must be submitted.
This document must also be uploaded as pdf file within the online application!

5.3)

  • Finally the obligatory motivation letter (not more than 2 pages) offers the possibility for the applicants to present their personal motivation for the application for the Deutschlandstipendium at the FH Dortmund. In addition the preceding individual career and/or the overcoming of special “obstacles” may be described here. The letter of motivation and all other statements and proofs together with school and university performance compiled in the online application mask complete the overall impression necessary to support the members of the selection committee in their decision.

Finally please note:
Prior to the uploading the motivation letter and the documents mentioned above (points 5.1 to 5.3), all documents must be combined in a single pdf file (with a maximum of 5 MB).

6.) When do I receive an acceptance or rejection?
  • You may anticipate an acceptance or rejection in the September/October 2019.
  • Please refrain from further inquiries!
  • There is no legal claim to the awarding of a scholarship.

  • Payments are transferred the first of the month
  • Half of your financial funding will be financed by scholarship sponsors (firms, foundations, private persons) with the Federal German Government matching the other half.

8.) How long is the duration of the scholarship?
