The founding of IDiAL

Under the aegis of the research focus Process Improvement for Mechatronic and Embedded Systems (PIMES) and in collaboration with the research focus Mobile Business – Mobile Systems (MBMS), Intelligent Business Information Systems (iBIS), and BioMedizinTechnik (BMT), 10 professors from 4 faculties founded IDiAL as the logical next step.

Growth and strong partnerships

IDiAL currently employs 58 staff members for research projects, who are mostly co-located at Otto-Hahn-Str. 23 and 27 in order to facilitate information exchange and cooperation across the projects.

The research associates include 24 postgraduates in cooperative doctoral studies with partner universities, partially funded by the doctoral program of Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Science and Arts.

IDiAL can rely on a strong network of universities supporting this work. The partners in this case include the following universities: TU Dortmund University, Technical University of Munich (TUM), FernUniversität in Hagen, University of Duisburg-Essen, Osnabrück University, Bielefeld University, Paderborn University, Uni­ver­si­ty of Kassel, University of Hildesheim, University of Vechta, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and KU Leuven.

In addition to training in the form of projects and final theses, IDiAL is also involved in the teaching, through the English language Master's programs “Digital Transformation” and “Embedded Systems for Mechatronics”.
