About the person
About myself
I studied business administration and mechanical engineering and completed my doctorate at the University of Kassel between 2009 and 2015 on the topic of ”Impact of project management maturity on project success“. After seven years of professional career in the industry – mainly as a manager of product development projects in the context of automotive/special purpose vehicle – I was appointed to Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2022.
The main focus of my teaching is on project management. Students and theses supervised by me have already been awarded prizes (German Project Management Study Prize of the GPM, 2011, master’s thesis category) and resulted in publications (e.g., Aschoff et al., 2013, Tailoring internal company project management standards for energy plant construction projects. Project management in the energy sector, Springer: Berlin, 125-145).
Together with my team, I am currently focusing on the following research areas:
- Project management of digital transformation projects
- Agile/hybrid project management
- Project management in product development
I have networks in industry/business (thyssenkrupp digital projects, Vorwerk, ...) and in academia.
If you are interested in working with me, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Anwesha Mukherjee, external PhD student
Ms. Mukherjee is a business economist and European Master in Project Management alumni (Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, 2022). She works on the influence of age diversity in agile project management, her research focus is on impact of soft factors, such as (servant) leadership, in agile project success. In addition to her work in a management consultancy, she is strongly interested in generative AI and digital twin technology and has founded a startup in this context that offers members of Generation Z guidance on career issues using GenAI. At the IEEE IDAACS Conference 2023 (Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems), her contribution was voted the best in the project management stream.
Florian Rüttger, PhD student and employee within the DigiTransPro research project
Mr. Rüttger is an industrial engineer (specializing in electrical engineering), holds a master’s degree in project management (European Master in Project Management, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, 2019) and has been working on an industrial doctorate since the end of 2023. In this context, he is employed part-time in the above-mentioned research project and at Vorwerk Elektrowerke. In his research he looks into agile product development in the context of digital transformation.

Information on your theses
For your empirical or literature-based/conceptual thesis, please contact me by e-mail or during my office hours. You should contact me approximately three to six months before the desired registration date for your thesis. Due to the high volume of theses from the European Master in Project Management-programme, I can only accept a limited number of theses from students of other programmes. There is no list of topics. Please perceive the topics listed on this page under ”Research“ as an initial orientation. In principle, it is possible to work in cooperation with companies. I am happy to discuss further conditions with you.
