Nomination by your home institution
The nomination for an exchange at Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts can only be done via the Mobility Online Portal. The partner universities are asked to nominate their students via their individual login. Please contact the International Office of your home institution if you have been nominated, yet.
Nomination deadlines:
- for the winter semesters: 15 March - 1 May
- for the summer semesters: 15 September - 1 November
Registration
After the nomination by your university, you will receive an e-mail with the most important information on applying for a stay abroad at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Use the link in the e-mail to register in the Mobility Online Portal.
Please note that this is an automatically generated e-mail that may be marked as spam. Make sure to check your spam folder.
You can also find the Log-in page at the end of this site (after your first registration).
Application documents
Use the link in the e-mail from Mobility Online to first complete your personal master data. You will then be taken to the overview of your application history, in which you can check the status of your application at any time and make subsequent changes. Here you will be asked step by step to upload various documents. In order for the application to be accepted, all steps must be completed.
The following documents must be submitted:
- Passport copy
- Proof of language proficiency in the language of instruction at the host university
- certificate of achievement (transcript of records)
- Learning Agreement (see below)
Your documents will then be formally checked by the International Office. No further changes to your application data are possible after the formal check. If you have ticked the question of accommodation with "Yes", your request will be passed on to the Studierendenwerk Dortmund, through which the accommodation processing takes place.
Application and residence of non-EU citizens
Non-EU citizens who have one of the following nationalities from: Switzerland, Andorra, Australia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Israel, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Monaco, New Zealand, San Marino or the USA, can enter Germany without a visa, but must register after entering with Citizens' Services International in Dortmund and apply for a residence permit as well as provide proof of financing for €861 per month.
“For third-country nationals who are staying in the EU for the purpose of studying, easier mobility conditions apply within the EU. If you have already been granted a residence permit in accordance with the REST Directive (Directive 2016/801 / EU) in another EU member state, you can stay in Germany and study there without a German residence permit. The member states Great Britain, Ireland and Denmark do not implement the directive.
The prerequisite for mobility is that the stay for the purpose of studying does not exceed 360 days. In addition, the receiving higher education institution in Germany must send a notification to the national contact point at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The notification should be sent as soon as you have determined your intention to study in Germany. It must be submitted in full to the National Contact Point at least 30 days before the planned entry date.
Information on the notification:
If a student comes to Germany as part of mobility, the receiving higher education institution must send a corresponding notification to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees by completing the notification form digitally. In addition, copies of the following documents must be submitted digitally with the form:
- Residence permit of the first EU member state (valid for the entire period of mobility)
- Recognized valid passport / passport substitute
- Proof of participation in a Union or multilateral program with mobility measures or the validity of an agreement between two or more universities
- Admission of the receiving university
- Proof of livelihood security (including proof of health insurance)
* In general, all documents except for the passport and the residence permit must be submitted in German.
After the completeness check, the Federal Office sends the notification to the responsible immigration authority. They can refuse the intended stay within 30 days. If this does not happen, entry can take place. The Federal Office issues a certificate of mobility. This certificate is declaratory and not necessary for entry. "(Source: http://www.bamf.de)
* (Proof of financial means of €853 per month is usually to be proven by means of a blocked account or a declaration of commitment. Letter of acceptance of your Erasmus scholarship also serves as financial evidence and must be submitted. The €853 per month to be verified are then reduced by the Erasmus scholarship. )
Learning Agreement
The Learning Agreement (LA) is your personal study plan, on which you enter the courses you have selected and any changes you may have made.
Information on the process:
The Learning Agreement is now only available as Digital Learning Agreement via our Mobility Online platform and your home institution. You state courses with a maximum total of 30 ECTS per semester.
The LA must then be signed first by your home university and you and then by Fachhochschule Dortmund (international representative).
At the latest 3 weeks after arrival at the FH Dortmund, you check the feasibility of the courses and make changes if necessary. After you have changed your LA, you will again need the signatures of your home university and the international representative of your department at the FH Dortmund.
You will receive all the information you need for your course selection from the international representative in your department (see below).
Please make sure that all of the exams you have selected are offered during your stay. At the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, exams are offered in two stages. The second part of the examination usually extends into the following semester. This examination period is often outside of your residence time, requires you to re-register at the FH Dortmund by paying the semester fee and overlaps with the restart of your studies at your home university.
Attention: A learning agreement does not replace the registration for the exam via the online services for students (ODS) of FH Dortmund or via the study portal. You will receive the access data after enrollment. Each department has its own deadlines for registering and de-registering for exams. If you fail to register for an exam, you will not be able to take the exam. You can obtain information about ODS and the study portal from your departemental coordinator or your study office.
