Entry Regulations

Upon receipt of a complete application of admission, the International Office will return an acknowledgement of application (Bewerberbestätigung). If German language skills are not sufficient, the applicant must submit a registration together with a confirmation of payment for a German course with at least 25 hours per week. This acknowledgement of application together with the proof of sufficient financial means must be submitted to a German diplomatic mission or consulate in his/her home country, in order to obtain a visa for study purposes. The German aliens’ departments do not convert a tourist visa into a visa for study purposes. Different regulations apply to EU and EFTA nationals and citizens from Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Honduras, Monaco, San Marino and the USA.

Accommodation

Admission to Fachhochschule Dortmund does not guarantee accommodation. The student himself is responsible for finding a room. In Dortmund - as in all university cities - the housing situation is tight. Most students’ halls of residence have waiting lists. It is, therefore, advisable to start searching for accommodation immediately upon receipt of the admission notice. It is worthwhile to address a request for housing to Studentenwerk (www.stwdo.de) as well as to the housing placement office of the International Office of the Technical University Dortmund (wohnraumvermittlung@gmx.de ).
