Who needs to apply via uni-assist?

You apply via uni-assist if your school leaving certificate or qualification for university study has not been gained at a German school or a school with German Abitur accreditation. Examples of school leaving certificates are Abitur, Matura, A-Level, High School Diploma, Baccalauréat and others. The International Office can advise you on the parity of your school leaving qualification. Please check through the conditions for studying at Fachhochschule Dortmund well in advance (test of aptitude, pre-university work placement etc.).

Who does not need to apply via uni-assist?

You do not need to apply via uni-assist

  • if you want to apply for a Master's degree course.
  • if you want to study in a design course: please apply directly at the International Office.
  • if you have gained your school leaving certificate at a German school or a school with German Abitur accreditation.*
  • if you are from a Member State of the European Union or from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.*
  • if you live in Germany and are not from a Member State of the European Union or from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway but have a family member from these states who lives and works in Germany.*

 


* Please note: If you want to study architecture, social work or business studies, please address to ZVS (D-4428 Dortmund) at www.zvs.de, for all other courses address online to Studienbüro.

 

 

 

  • If your school leaving qualification does not directly entitle you to attend a university in Germany. In this case you must apply directly to

Studienkolleg des Ökumenischen Studienwerks Bochum (www.studienkolleg-bochum.de): Preparatory course for engineering and science - or to

Studienkolleg Mettingen (www.studienkolleg-mettingen.de)

Preparatory courses for humanities, medicine and biological sciences, engineering and sciences, economics and business studies.


When do you need to apply via uni-assist?

You need to apply for the summer semester before January 15 and for the winter semester before July 15.

We strongly recommend you to dispatch your documentation at least four to six weeks before the deadline to allow time for queries.

If you have already applied for the preceding semester, please get directly in contact with the International Office.

How do you need to apply?
  • You need to use the application form for admission (Antrag auf Zulassung) from the International Office or from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) (www.daad.de). Please note that Fachhochschule Dortmund does not offer main and minor subjects. You need to apply for courses (Studiengänge) only.
  • Please send your filled-out and signed application for admission together with your complete documentation. Only one set of documents must be sent to uni-assist if you apply for two or more uni-assist universities. A separate application form is necessary for each university.
  • Please pay your application fee when you forward your application.

What is "complete" documentation?
  • Certificate(s) awarded in your home country that entitle(s) you to study; in some countries it may also include a university entrance examination or proof of successfully passed study years. Certificates need to be submitted as officially certified copies in the original language as well as in an officially certified German translation if the originals are not in German, English or French.
  • Proof of German language competence (TestDaF, DSH, C1 etc., see separate information).
  • Copy of your passport (with family name and first name, date of birth etc.).
  •  

    Missing documents must be submitted within one week. Acceptable certification is from the authorities, church or notary in Germany, and abroad from ministries and German diplomatic missions or consulates. Please do not submit originals! Be aware that uni-assist cannot process incomplete documentation.


    How much is the application fee?
    • 55 € for the first university and 15 € for any additional university.
    • Applicants from P.R. China who have gone through APS procedures in China pay only 25°€ for the first university and 15 € for any additional university.

    Please note: There is no fee reduction for applications from Vietnam and Mongolia because APS fees are lower than in P.R. China.


    How can you pay the application fee?
    • You may pay by direct debit authorisation from your German bank account. At www.uni-assist.de you will find an appropriate form that needs to be filled out and submitted with your application.
    • By credit card (VISA card or MasterCard). A credit card form at www.uni-assist.de needs to be filled out and submitted with your application.
    • By bank transfer to uni-assist on account no. 999 1488 322, bank code 100 200 00, Berliner Bank, international bank identification code (IBAN) DE 591002000099911488322, BIC/SWIFT code BEBEDEBB. Please indicate country of origin, family name and first name, date of birth and semester for which you wish to register.

    You have to pay the transaction fees as well, since uni-assist can only process your application if the application fee has been paid completely!


    What happens after the application has been submitted?
  • After assessment of your documents uni-assist will inform you about the result. If all requirements are fulfilled, uni-assist will forward your data to Fachhochschule Dortmund, which will send a letter of admission with information on enrolment.
  • In case you do not fulfill formal requirements, it is not possible to return your documents. You have to renew your application for the next possible semester and to pay the application fee once more.
  • Your data will be saved electronically for a period of four years. The dates are only available to your chosen universities. After that period the data will be destroyed.

    A chance to participate in a lottery for a place in a Bachelor’s degree course

    If you have received a letter of rejection because of admission restrictions, or you did not meet the deadline, you may participate in a lottery (Losverfahren) which distributes free first-semester study places. Please address to the International Office.
