Social work is a service that seeks to support people in their attempts to fashion their lives and cope with difficulties they may encounter over the course of their lives. To this end, social work is particularly concerned in its theory and practice with problems of social deprivation of individuals and groups within society. It seeks to understand the conditions that engender distress and examine how such individual and social conditions might be overcome, or, preventively, how people might be kept from falling into economic and psychosocial distress.

Pre-practicum and the practice module
If the Advanced Technical Certificate for admission to the bachelors course of study does not come from a technical or vocational school specializing in social or health care, it is also necessary for the applicant to complete a 3 month pre-practicum. The pre-practicum must specifically relate to a social work field (under supervision by social work professionals) and be completed before the student begins studies. In legitimate cases, exceptions are possible.
If the one-year supervised practicum or the vocational training program appears relevant in retrospect to the anticipated bachelors course of study in social work, it can be taken into account.
The bachelors program of study Social Work contains a Practice module. It comprises a practicum that is 510 hours in length. This practicum should involve three days a week and be accomplished within the frame of the fourth or fifth semester. It will be guided and analyzed within the frame of a supervision seminar.
